Kappa Theta Pi (KTP) is a premier professional fraternity that brings together individuals with a shared passion for technology and innovation. We strive to build a community of future leaders in tech, fostering growth, friendship, and professional development. Thus, our mission is to empower members to achieve their potential in the tech industry by providing resources, mentorship, and a supportive community. We are committed to excellence, inclusivity, and the pursuit of knowledge.
On January 10th, 2012, at the University of Michigan, two students founded a professional fraternity aimed at informatics students. After determining interest, they gathered KTP's first-ever E-Board of University of Michigan informatics students.
Approaching 2014, the fraternity broadened its focus to encompass many technology-related majors, including engineering and computer science. Soon after, the University of Michigan School of Information officially sponsored the fraternity.
From 2015-2017, the Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon chapters were established at the University of Pittsburgh, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Syracuse University, and the University of Maryland, respectively. All of these chapters continue to be active to this day.
In March 2022, the Iota Chapter was officially founded at UT Austin. President and Founder Yumna Ahmed had the idea to bring a new kind of fraternity to Austin and bring together STEM majors from all kinds of backgrounds, spiritually similar to the dream the students at Michigan had just over a decade ago.
